On the 11th of November 2025, members of Ikoyi club gathered for an engaging session on women’s health, well-being, beauty and lifestyle.

The health and beauty day was refreshing and deeply practical, Ṣalewa AJILA, the lead nutritionist at The Nutree Health, Dr. Temitope Akinola (obstetrics & Gynaecologist, Evercare Hospital) and Dr. Gbonjubola Abiri (CEO Redi-Med Consulting services) were the expert speakers on the conversation in celebration of the Amazon women of the club.

Ṣalewa AJILA’s discussion centered around “The Evolving Woman: Nourishing Your Body Through Every Decade.”

The session blended science, daily lifestyle habits and real-life nutrition strategies that are applicable to daily life.

The discussion centered on one powerful message: “Let food be your medicine and medicine your food”

Throughout the presentation she a powerful truth; a woman’s body is a masterpiece in constant, intelligent evolution. There is no “one-size-fits-all” in nutrition, and the key to lifelong vitality is learning to listen to the unique story your body is telling you.

Here’s a snapshot of the discussion; Nutritional milestones were mapped out, from the foundational bone-building needs under 20, to the iron-rich and energy-sustaining diets of our 20s & 30s, the hormonal harmony focus in our 40s, the graceful strengthening through perimenopause in our 50s, and the vital support for heart, brain, and bone health 60 and beyond.

The core pillars we explored:
Diet: Emphasizing whole foods, essential nutrients for each stage, and the critical role of hydration.
Exercise: Reinforcing that “the body was created to move,” and combating a sedentary lifestyle is non-negotiable.
Rest: Championing quality sleep as a non-negotiable pillar of healing and hormonal balance.

Addressed, was also the realities many women face, from PCOS and fibroids, conditions that impact a significant percentage of Black women, to the entire spectrum of a woman’s life, from menstruation to pregnancy (for those who choose it) and, eventually, menopause.

The central theme was rethinking “healthy” and pushing back against trends. The women were urged to be discerning, as not every popular diet is scientifically backed or effective for your individual body. Your body talks to you; it accepts and rejects. Our job is to become fluent in its language.

The session was completed with the popular saying, “Black don’t crack…” with the crucial addendum, “…when you take care of it.”

A woman’s body is almost always undergoing some form of stress, be it hormonal or external, making proactive care essential to ensure we don’t struggle in our later years.

Ṣalewa left them with the timeless wisdom of Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” While a nourishing diet is our first line of defense to reduce health challenges, it is imperative to seek professional medical help when a condition cannot be managed through lifestyle alone.

It was a profound reminder of the resilience and power of womanhood.

We congratulate Ikoyi Club for prioritizing the health of women.
